Bleeding Black

The theme for Black Heritage Celebration 2012 is Bleeding Black and will focus on three broad categories: Tortured Souls, Healing Wounds, and Pride and Prejudice.  Within these categories we invite participants to consider the following: (Tortured Souls) Violence throughout the African Diaspora, the US prison industrial complex, violence against Black women in the U.S. and abroad; (Healing Wounds) Health care, HIV/AIDS, heart disease, healthy eating, sexual/reproductive health, spirituality, healthy living; and finally, (Pride and Prejudice) Black power movement, Black arts and cultural movements throughout the Diaspora, critiques of these movements, celebrations of black heritage amidst a history of discrimination.  The collection of signature BHC 2012 events promises to challenge our audience to have these, and many more conversations through thoughtful dialogue, debate,  performances, art work, panel discussions, educational displays, and engaging speakers.
